Mbithi Masya
Mbithi Masya is a Kenyan director of films, music videos, and commercials. His first feature film, KATI KATI, produced by award-winning German director Tom Tykwer (RUN LOLA RUN, PERFUME), has won several global awards including the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) award in the Discovery Programme at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. FIPRESCI described Mbithi’s work as ‘an exciting and unique new voice in cinema’. Since then KATI KATI has screened at over 40 festivals globally and won multiple awards. Mbithi has also directed ads for some of Kenya’s most prominent brands, including Barclays, Coca Cola, Oracle, and Google.
As an artist, Mbithi has been a part of the highly acclaimed experimental music group and art collective JUST A BAND. His direction of music videos has earned him recognition from local and international press such as the New York Times, Fader, and The Huffington Post.
