Gabriela Watson-Burkett
Brazilian of Peruvian descent, Gabriela Watson-Burkett is a filmmaker, producer, and educator based in Philadelphia, United States. She is one of the founding members of ¡Presente! Media, a creative collective that produces bilingual journalistic articles and documentaries focused on social justice. Gabriela is also a TV Producer for WPVI-TV/6ABC and she has been teaching filmmaking and Latin American Cinema at many universities around the city. Gabriela’s latest documentary "Baobab Flowers" won the Audience Award for Best Documentary Short at the 2017 BlackStar Film Festival and it is being screened in various film festivals around the world. She has a BA in Communications and an MFA in Film and Media Arts from Temple University. Gabriela has received many awards including the Leeway Art and Change Grant, the Lenfest Next Generation Fund, and the Philadelphia Independent Media Finishing Fund.
