Thina, an award-winning creative, possesses vast experience in bringing ground-breaking and captivating creative and campaigns to life across multiple mediums and channels. She brings a proven track record in leading creative and production teams. Having started her a creative career in the leading advertising agencies such as Ogilvy, Joe Public and Network BBDO, Thina’s experience and creative input has changed the way we know traditional and online media today. Thina has developed and produced work in the form of campaigns, print adverts, radio, online campaigns for brands like Standard Bank, Ackermans, Jet, Castrol, Nedbank, Zazi, Nestea (Nestlé), Marie Claire, Sun International, and Brothers for Life. Although traditionally trained as an art director in advertising, Thina needed a more freeing visual weapon to tell stories and the camera was it. Born in Cape Town and now residing in Johannesburg, Thina Zibi is at the vanguard of visual artists documenting Mzansi’s culture in urban South Africa. She demonstrates with her images the incredible innovation evident in contemporary South African design and style. Her photographic series have been featured in leading independent art galleries as her eye for art direction, design and everything beautiful, goes unsurpassed. Zibi’s work has been showcased in online and printed publications such as Essays magazine, Elle Magazine – which deemed her one of South Africa’s photographers to watch, House & Leisure,10 & 5, Noted Man, Africa is a country, the Bubblegum Club and more. Her current work illustrates the being of femininity, through the female black body as well as her own personal experiences. Her work forces one to engage beyond just a visual realm but is also challenges the viewer with the topic at hand. The artist also extends her creativity in filmmaking and this can be witnessed on her two films “Tjuele” and “Bakhona,” which received the rode reel cinematography award as well as art direction. She has also been honoured with the portraiture award in 2019 by the Africa Photo Award organisation. Thina is currently in the editing phase for her short film “Bompi” which was a product of the NFVF Women’s Programme 2020 as well as an alternative music film for Gabi Motuba. She is also currently shooting a documentary that looks at the rise of traditional healers in South Africa.
